Amami Brown Sugar Shochu
一村
From our label series featuring the work of Isson Tanaka, the solitary painter who loved Amami.
The label carries "The Shore with Adan," painted by Isson in his later years. Blending cask-aged spirit with unaged spirit draws out the fruitier side of brown sugar shochu. A character sold only in Amami and Kagoshima Prefecture, and one we hope you will take your time over.

The Aroma and Flavor That Only Oak Cask Aging Can Give
Spirit matured over many years in oak casks of differing character is layered with the light, fruity spirit that only vacuum distillation gives, then blended in exquisite balance. The strength is just 25% ABV, low for a cask-aged brown sugar shochu, yet on the palate a mellow, vanilla-like aroma drawn from the oak opens out with real depth of flavor. A light mouthfeel, and a firm cask character with it. This is a bottling that shows Machida Shuzo's blending skill at its very best.
Isson Tanaka, the Solitary Painter Who Loved Amami
Isson Tanaka moved to Amami in his fifties and lived, painted and died there. The abundant nature, the creatures and the landscapes of the island that he rendered through his singular vision continue to captivate people to this day. For this label we chose "The Shore with Adan," among the most loved of his works. We hope it invites you to take your time, and to let your thoughts turn to the nature and culture of Amami.
A Character That Shifts as the Ice Melts
Isson is at its best on the rocks. Poured over a glass filled with cold ice, the gentle sweetness that only brown sugar shochu can give stands out sharply, and the vanilla-like aroma drawn from the oak opens out generously. As the ice melts, the character turns mellow and shifts again. Take your time with it.
